About the Festival

Celebrate the next chapter of South Dakota’s literary tradition at the South Dakota Festival of Books. For more than two decades, the Festival has brought readers, writers, and communities together to explore the stories that shape our state. As we approach the Festival’s 24th anniversary, this year offers a chance to honor that legacy while embracing new ideas, new voices, and new experiences all for FREE!

Returning to downtown Sioux Falls, the Festival features a thoughtfully curated lineup of authors, vendors, book signings, and community programming that reflects the broader mission of the South Dakota Humanities Council and the South Dakota Center for the Book. Attendees can browse local and regional vendors, meet writers from across the state and beyond, and engage in conversations that celebrate South Dakota’s rich literary culture.

New this year, guests are invited to experience SculptureWalk Sioux Falls, a guided walk through downtown Sioux Falls, connecting the city’s public art with the storytelling traditions that have long inspired the Festival. Whether you’re discovering a new favorite author, exploring creative work from local artisans, or enjoying the vibrant cultural landscape of Sioux Falls, the Festival offers something for every reader
